Playing shows is one of my favorite things in life and comes with a lot of excitement, adrenaline, happiness, but also anxiety. Which is why it’s very important to me to have the most relaxed morning whenever possible. I try to wake up, make coffee, and breakfast and immediately sit on the couch and turn on an episode of Avatar the Last Airbender. I grew up watching it and it’s become one of the most soothing things I do. Something about Aang and the boys chilling and saving the world just does it for me.
After the morning I’ll head to the venue and typically do vocal warmups in the car, set up, try to eat something greasy like French fries, and drink as much water as possible. I usually try to help as much as I can in setting up and sound checking, since I’ve been the guy in the band and the sound guy before, so I know how far it goes.
When my nerves start to get to me I tell myself “I belong here, I’ve worked hard for this, and this is gonna be a great show.
