1. Make sure you get enough rest
Rest is so important at all times, but especially on tour. I know I get sick really easily, so this is the best tip I can give myself and anyone else who wants to have a successful, enjoyable tour. To do this, I recommend bringing anything that makes your tour bus, RV, hotel room, or van feel most like home! For me, I bring a night mask to block out the light and my favorite pillow.
2. Find ways to relax
Tour can be so stressful. From worrying about how your performance is going to go each night, to rushing through a soundcheck, or dealing with the endless issues that pop up, you have to find a way that’s best for you to relax. Mine is drinking hot tea and watching my favorite reality shows. Find what works best for you!
3. Take advantage of the venue dressing rooms
It can be hard on an RV or tour bus to have a good shower. If the venue happens to have a shower, use it! It’s also smart to bring a shower catty or something that has all of your stuff in one place, which is very practical and makes life on the road so much easier.
4. Don’t bring too much
If I had my choice, I’d bring my whole closet on tour with me. Unfortunately, that is not possible or smart to do. If you are on an RV or tour bus, there is very limited space for your clothes plus your band mates’ and teams’ clothes as well. Even if you are staying in hotels, it is not practical to bring giant suitcases to lug around. Trust me, if I can narrow it down, so can you!
5. Find time to enjoy the cities you’re in
There will be some cities that you just perform in and then leave right after, but you’ll most likely have some time off in really cool cities. My advice is to use that time to explore and create lasting memories. For me, I tend to get tired after a while and not feel like going out for a little bit, but after I do, I never regret it.
