Jennifer Paige – TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, the singer-songwriter, Jennifer Paige, gives you her tips for being on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

1) Log EVERYTHING
When you’re touring, you think you’ll remember the name of that amazing restaurant where you had the best meal of your life, that venue you can’t wait to get back to and those new friends you met along the way. Things can become a blur when you’re on the inside of a bus hopping from city to city and flying from country to country. If you weren’t the one who personally set up the gig, take even better notes. What happens if your booking agent quits the business or you & your manager go separate ways? Don’t depend on someone else to do everything for you and you won’t be at the mercy of everyone else when you’re ready to get back out on the road for another round.
2) Pack light
Having loads of belongings on a tour bus is a nightmare. If I really need something, I can go somewhere local and get it…layers people, layers! Roll those clothes, too. You can fit about 20 more things in your bag when you roll your clothes instead of the typical fold.
3) Bring a diffuser
Whether your bus smells like nachos or drummers, sometimes you need a diffuser to un-stink it up. If one of the band members has a cold, you need to be diffusing some essential oils to boost everyone else’s immunity. Nothing worse that a bunch of sickly band mates. Do everyone a favor and get those oils flowing all throughout the bus before you all go down.
4) Healthy snacks
Let’s be honest. The road can be a grind. A lot of strange sleeping hours, no more sleeping in your comfy king bed and lots of late nights. Take care of yourself by eating well. Make it a priority at the beginning and don’t fall into the fast food life. You’re gonna need your energy. Before you leave, stock up on a protein shake or healthy snacks and keep those on hand when you forgot to eat before the gig, and nothing is open except Taco Bell.
5) Record a tour diary and share it with your fans.
We forget how unique this business is sometimes. There’s a lot of fun behind the scenes stuff that no one ever gets to see. Walking into the venue for the sound check, talking to the bus driver, featuring each member of the band, talking about interests outside of music, sharing fun stops along the way. It doesn’t have to be earth shattering, award-winning material… keep it real and share the process. Your fans will love you even more than they already do!
