Choosing a lineup for my ‘dream tour’ is not easy. There are so many musicians and bands that I love and respect, and so many that have influenced my style of songwriting and production. However, at this current stage in my musical journey, a few artists come to mind with whom I would LOVE to share the stage.
The two very mainstream examples of who I’d want on my dream tour are Twenty One Pilots and Imagine Dragons. Both bands have influenced me heavily in the way I make music. Twenty One Pilots, with their genre-blending songs mixing rock, pop, rap and screamo showed me that there are no rules in music and genre labels are worthless. Imagine Dragons have that quintessential anthemic sound, which really gets me hooked. The guys know how to write bangers and I really admire their production sound.
A couple less well-known examples of who I’d love on my ‘dream tour’ are Grandson and Call Me Karizma. Both these artists blend the genre of rock and trap which is something I absolutely love. When you can make heavy (borderline metal) guitars work with hip hop/trap drums, then you’ve got me! I really admire their songwriting as well, particularly the lyrics, which range from political to psychological in their subject matter.
You might have noticed my taste in music is not very ‘old school’. The first band I can remember listening to as a kid was Green Day, and I became more interested in the future of music as opposed to looking back to the classics. I suppose the move from New York City to London when I was 9 had something to do with this? Not sure. Although I’ve been told many times that my ‘sound’ is more American than English, which I accept :)
