This past Friday night, Bottom Lounge played host to Jonny Craig, Travis Garland, and Kyle Lucas.
Starting the night off was Georgia native Kyle Lucas. Having just dropped his album “MARIETTA, GEORGIA: THE ALBUM”, he seemed very excited to perform his new material for everyone. This is not the first time that Lucas has taken this stage and I can already see his fan base growing from the last time he was here. He has a lot of energy on and off stage. Performing favorites such as “Airport Blues”, “Worth It”, as well as his new song “Veritas”, he had a lot of energy and got the crowd warmed up for the night. He even had Jonny join him onstage for a couple songs before he ended his set but not before inviting everyone to meet him after. You can always find him after his set by the merch table or walking around meeting people and just signing and taking pictures with everyone. He is a great artist and should definitely be checked out. I would get used to him being around since it doesn’t look like there will be a Jonny Craig tour without him on it.

Travis Garland was up next and I swear I thought it was Jonny Craig singing. This was my first time hearing him and it won’t be my last. He has a nice, smooth, soulful voice and charisma about him. Even though his space on the stage was limited he seemed to have the audience gravitating towards him. On stage with him was a guitarist named Jonny-boy who was just as captivating as Travis. He played songs from his album, Uppers + Downers, Vol. 1, such as “Wolves”, “Kate Moss” and others. His album is free on SoundCloud and he told the audience he wanted them to have it and to give him their honest opinion on it. So check it out and let him know what you think!

One of the things I love watching Jonny Craig perform is how he commands the stage. He becomes one with it and seems to glide across it as soon as he comes out. At some points during his set he was on his knees singing, he never stops moving. His banter with the crowd is another aspect that I enjoy. He always seems to have a small speech for the audience and this night was no different. He made a statement about how things on the internet get taken out of proportion and that if he was to take a shot with his friends on stage then he should be able to because he knows how to handle himself. But he knows that someone is going to post that he relapsed and went too far. So if anyone doesn’t like it then they can get out. Everyone cheered him once he was done with his spiel and he went on with the show. Continuing on, from opening the set with “The Open Letter”, he came into the crowd to perform a few acoustic songs such as “Children of Divorce”, “Marvin’s Room”, and some others. Everyone made a circle for him and his acoustic guitar to perform within. This was unexpected and made the show more personal. Later on, when he was back on stage, Kyle Lucas joined him again to sing some more songs with him such as “The Party and the Dream”, “We Black Hearts Bear the Cross”, and “I Can Still Feel Her, Part 5”. Towards the end of his set, he brought out his band, Slaves, and they performed “My Soul is Empty and Full of White Girls”. Jonny Craig is a great performer and if you have the chance to see these three artists together then I would definitely make sure to do so.
