Jordan De La Cruz – TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, the singer-songwriter, Jordan De La Cruz, gives you his tips for being on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

1: Get on a vibe with your homies and observe. I learned something new whenever I caught a vibe with one of the homies. Whether its long hours of a day road tripping or back and forth at airports; if there’s ever an opportunity to connect, do it! You’ll meet some incredible and talented people on the way. You’ll probably notice that tension can build from lack of sleep and travel, so find the time to balance some downtime for yourself and give each other space when needed.
2: Convenient food isn’t always convenient. It’s so easy to eat shit food on the road (there’s a double meaning there somewhere) plus it’s not always the cheapest or healthiest so you’ll be sure to pay for it when you least expect it. One of the best things I did was explore the different cuisines out and about; best of all you’d be surprised with your options for price, health, and convenience. You can’t go wrong with a trip to your local grocery store for on-the-go snacks that are also cheap, easy and healthy.
BONUS TIP: If you’re feeling peckish throughout the night but the hotel mini-bar price lists are too damn high FEAST! Then replace them for at least half price from the grocery store the next day.
3: Document if you can! Not all of us can tour with our own videographer or photographer so sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got. Documenting tour antics through my phone was awesome content for social media and it gave me a heap of memories to relive. If not video or photos, write it down; you’re an artist after all but Pick your moments and don’t be extra.
4: What would mum do? In my teenage angst, I would always scoff at mum when she’d offer motherly advice like telling me to put on my jacket because it was cold outside otherwise ‘you’ll get sick!’ So between shows, after-parties, travel, late nights and interacting with a lot of people on a daily basis, I was quick to learn that my immunity threshold was pushed to its limits and mum was right all along! It was important for me to take a range of vitamins, stay hydrated and be considerate of others, especially if I was ever feeling contagious. At the end of the day, the show must go on and you and everyone on tour need to be as close to peak performance as possible!
5: Teamwork makes the dream work: Most importantly work together with your team. Be organized and delegate roles and responsibilities accordingly, its way too difficult to try and manage everything on your own. Keep the communication open, look out for one another like family and try to keep the good vibes flowing!
