My dream tour would definitely be a singer/songwriter’s type tour. I love all kinds of bands and artists but I always find my way back to a handful of writers who have a particular way with words. It’s funny because I used to focus solely on the music, not lyrics. I thought lyrics were just an excuse to create a captivating melody. Now lyrics are the most important aspect of any song I listen to. In huge part thanks to the band Dawes, Jason Isbell, and John Mayer.
While we of course follow artists we love, some artists actually sort of follow us throughout our lives. We start listening to them at a young enough age and then suddenly, decades have passed and they’ve been there for every major life event. That’s how I would describe my relationship with John Mayer’s music. He has an album for every season of my life. For that reason, he is a must for my dream tour.
In recent years, I discovered two of my favorite songwriters in Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, and Jason Isbell. Both of which live in genres that I don’t quite feel I exist in myself. Some interesting blend of indie and Americana. I challenge you to find better lyricists than either of these two. Obviously, I have my doubts. If they were to grace us with their presence on my dream tour, I could die a happy man.
So, if anybody out there has the means, put in a good word for me will ya?
