To get warmed up for the show-day, I usually try to find a gym! Instead of just warming up your vocals, I feel like being warm throughout helps a lot. It can be difficult to find a gym close to some venues but I usually figure it out somehow. Otherwise, I just do some body-exercises.
After the gym, it’s time for soundcheck. Soundcheck is usually where I do my first vocal warmups. I don’t do no: ”do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do”. I like to just sing my songs to warm up my vocals. I usually keep it at 80% on soundcheck’s to not wear we my vocals out and let the 100% come when the crowd is in front of the stage.
I’m a one-man band with an MPC, guitar, and piano so even though it’s an easy setup, everything has to be perfect before the gig so I don’t have to think of anything else whilst performing.
I check the tuning on the guitar and that the right sound is programmed on the piano plus putting my MPC on the right settings.
I usually don’t like to eat food too close to show time, so I try to eat at least two hours before the show. I prefer to eat light the whole show-day. And I drink a lot of water during the day. Depending on how I feel in the throat I might get some ginger, lemon and honey tea.
30 minutes before the show I usually use a glass tube and bubble it in water which really relaxes the throat, perfect for the show!
When I walk on stage I take a last sip of water before I begin!
