Kid Astray – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the indie pop band, Kid Astray, talk about some of their crazy moments from touring. You can check out the feature, after the break.

We’ve been touring quite a bit throughout the years so some weird stuff is bound to happen from time to time. Like that one night during our 2013 tour that just turned out really… yeah, weird. We played a student show on a campus, and it was quite lively. As this was one of the first tours we’d ever been on, we hardly expected there to be any people coming to our shows, and true enough when we started out playing there were only a few shy guys in the back of the place. But by the end of song two or three, the place was suddenly bulging with drunk students.
After the show there were two particularly excited girls that really wanted to hang out backstage, clearly oblivious to how eventless just “hanging out backstage” is. We said yes, curious as to what groupies were like in our early days. They came in and just stayed for several hours. And we slowly saw how the extravagance of backstage life just revealed itself to them bit by bit, so we decided to humor ourselves by… well, lying. Like a lot.
After convincing them that we were really into drugs (which we’re not, drugs are bad kids) and that our manager was our coke-dealer, one of them told us, totally out of the blue, that she was working as a prison guard. Aaaand we took that as our cue to leave quickly. Especially since they seemed extremely keen on getting some themselves, and for some dumb reason we didn’t want to ruin the illusion of hardcore band life to them. So we packed our gear quickly and got our asses out to the van. Not one hundred meters away from the venue we almost ran over a naked guy running down the middle of the street. It was freezing outside, so we guess he wasn’t the type to just joke about doing drugs, unlike us.
