It all started with a very strange gig in Newcastle… For the first (and hopefully last) time in our musical careers, we had to go on stage after a hypnotist, who massively freaked us out as well as most of the audience. I think the four of us had all been hypno-skeptics up until this point, but the hypnotist on the night genuinely got people to do the craziest stuff, a lot of which was pretty humiliating… It got to the point where some audience members were literally screaming in horror and people were starting to leave the venue.
As you can imagine, we were all in a very weird place mentally both during and after the gig, particularly our bassist Tom… Tom was also at the disadvantage of being the band’s designated driver for the night, so while the rest of us took the edge off the night with multiple drinks after the show, Tom was forced to soberly contemplate the strangeness of the last few hours.
Halfway back on the long drive back home, Tom decided to stop off in a lay-by to have a little sleep… At this point, the rest of us shared a knowing look, all fully aware of how perfect an opportunity this was to exploit Tom’s vulnerable and unconscious mind. Quietly the three of us got out of the car and planned out the prank. I silently sprawled myself out over the front windscreen and played dead, lying completely motionless against the glass. The other two then went to either side of the car and after a whispered countdown, slammed their fists onto the roof of the car as hard as they could, simulating the sound of a crash. Tom jolted into consciousness, eyes wide with fear, mouth open, head swinging from side to side – a rabbit caught in the headlights if ever there was one. For a few delicious seconds, he genuinely thought he’d fallen asleep at the wheel and knocked someone over. Needless to say, that was the last time Tom took a nap in a vehicle with us for quite a long time.
Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
