In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the singer-songwriter, Kristopher James, shares one of his stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.
A friend of mine and I were in an acoustic folk/emo duo, a few years back.
Before leaving for a gig in South Carolina, I literally turned in the papers to reinstate my driver’s license – it was suspended for lack of insurance (I was in college and didn’t drive – didn’t think I needed it).
Anyway, we were pulling through Cook County Georgia around midnight, maybe going 5 over, red and blue lights suddenly appear in my rearview and we were quickly over on the side of the road. The officer came to my window, I respectfully handed him my license and registration. At this point, I just laughed a bit. I looked over to my friend Travis and said, “Watch, he’s going to ask me to step out of the car.”
*knock knock* on the window.
“Sir, step out of the car.”
It was like I was being dragged to the pit of hell and my friends couldn’t stop it.
Apparently, the Cook county computers at the time weren’t too swift on updating. I was bailed out at 6am the next morning and we barely made it to the show that evening.
Made for good fodder on the mic.
