So our crazy story takes place at a gig we had at the Hard Rock Café in Oslo. This happened maybe 2 years ago. We were playing this little showcase with a couple of other bands and this older guy in his 50s or 60s walks in.
He had long jet black dyed hair, a leather jacket, and looked like he had a very “rocker dude” kind of look. He had an entourage of younger people accompanying him. They looked like they were in their 30s. We noticed him but we didn’t think much of it. We just thought it was this older guy who was very into rock and just looked the way he did.
The day after the gig, Amir checked Instagram to see if someone had posted anything about the concert. He searched up the location of the Hard Rock Café and stumbled suddenly across a picture a guy who looked very starstruck posing with the old guy. In the caption of the picture, he wrote “Omg! I can’t believe I met Marky Ramone, the drummer of The Ramones at the Hard Rock Café last night!”. It seems that he had a gig in town the same night we did and just stopped by the Hard Rock Café when we had our gig. A punk rock legend was at one of our gigs!
But here comes the funny part… When we had our soundcheck before the gig, we were testing the microphones by saying the usual “check one-two” and while we were doing that, Henric goes on and sings “Hey ho! let’s go! Hey ho! Let’s go!” (remember that we didn’t know who this guy was at the time). Then, Amir suddenly joins in and just goes “Nuh nuh nuh, blitzkrieg bop!” in a very mocking manner. We then proceeded to play the song in an intentionally bad manner just to have a laugh.
We didn’t expect that one of the creators of the song was in the room. I mean, what are the chances?!
So yeah, we accidentally made a mockery of a punk rock legend’s song while he was there!
