Logan Mize – PRESHOW RITUALS

In this Preshow Rituals segment, the country music artist, Logan Mize, shares what he does before every show. You can check out his rituals, after the break.

We just moved into bus touring this year, so now my wife and two kids are traveling with us a lot. It slightly changes up the dynamic of the pre-show ritual. For instance, slamming a Vodka and Red Bull until I feel like a viking warrior ready for action has been swapped for diaper changes and trying to explain to my 3 year old that PBS’ Caillou is the worst show ever made and that I can’t possibly watch one more episode. Then I usually watch another episode of Caillou and if I’m lucky get in a quick little jog.

Then there’s usually a scavenger hunt to find someone who knows where a shower is. Typically at the outdoor festivals there aren’t showers, so then I usually call around to find a runner to take me to a hotel shower. Most of the time he’s too busy smoking cigarettes and gherming the headlining band and forgets to pick me up at the bus…so then I’ll usually go wash myself off with one of my 6 month old daughter’s wet wipes. At that point it’s about 10 minutes to showtime, so I’ll empty out the 27 M&Ms that my 3 year old put in my boot and make my way to the stage.

It’s usually about this time that I’ll realize my guitar is still on the bus from when I brought it there after soundcheck to change the strings, but only got halfway through. I’ll then begin sweating profusely and tell myself that I’m going to wake up tomorrow and be more prepared. I then make a mad dash for the stage and wonder if magically one of my songs became a hit since last nights show.
