My dream tour could only exist in the 80s, because in a PERFECT world I’d do a dark, extravagant, cabaret-style tour with Tom Waits, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Nina Hagen, with a guest appearance from Klaus Nomi of course. I’d bust out my ventriloquism skills and incorporate dummies into our various performances; fake blood would be involved! Lots of fog! Maybe some magic tricks!
It’s funny, I actually don’t consider myself an 80s person at all, but I’m so obsessed with that dark cabaret brand of theatricality that was happening in the early to mid-80s, so I guess technically I am an 80s person. This particular tour will never happen, but it’s a dream of mine to put together a tour that’s truly a show, a collaboration with artists in that vein. Modern equivalents might be artists like Amanda Palmer, Armen Ra who’s this amazing theremin player in LA, maybe Lady Gaga circa Monster Ball.
I got a theremin and I cannot for the life of me get it to work in my apartment, but one day I will master that damn thing and incorporate that into my show, and best believe there will be puppets! I know you’re not supposed to say this, but I usually don’t love concerts because so many shows just aren’t that exciting. So my dream tour is one that’s an experience, creating its own unique world alongside my idols who mastered that kind of immersive performance – the kind you just can’t look away from.
