Our dream tour at the moment would be opening for Moonface.
In my humble opinion, Spencer Krug is the greatest songwriter of this generation, hands-down – “Daughter of a Dove” (Moonface), “Shut Up I Am Dreaming of Places Where Lovers Have Wings” (Sunset Rubdown), “I’ll Believe In Anything” (Wolf Parade), “The Dreamland EP” (Moonface) – to my admittedly-biased brain, no one can touch those songs, or even really come close.
And the thing I love so much about all of his projects is that while the lyrics are jaw-droppingly good every single time, the music is always simultaneously so conceptually INTERESTING – it hits you in the heart and the brain (and the gut – it’s also some of the most visceral music I’ve ever heard) all at the same time – the song “Julia With Blue Jeans On” might have the most beautiful lyrics I’ve ever heard, and “The Mending of the Gown” could only be written by some crazy conceptual genius.
And though it’s probably the least well-known, Moonface is my favorite project of his because it shapeshifts almost every time – there’s the organ and drum machine record, and the psych-rock records with Siinai, and the solo piano albums – and they’re all equally amazing while also completely different.
I know I’m not the only one who feels this way, but damned if I wouldn’t be happy to see more people get blown away by the guy’s genius. So yeah, suffice it to say that Moonface could record a polka record and tour it in Antarctica, and we’d be there, honored, and ready to open a month of shows to seals and glaciers given the opportunity.
Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
