1. Stay Hydrated.
Being on the road is exhausting. Don’t get me wrong, it is the best job in the world and it’s what I love most, but it is incredibly tiring. It is so, so important to keep drinking water – especially if you’re having a couple of beers after the show!
2. Tour with good people.
The people you tour with are going to define the experience you have. I am so lucky to tour with some of the best people on this planet, who I consider to be really good friends. We have some pretty intense travel days and it’s always good to be able to laugh off a late flight or delayed train.
3. Be the best you can be.
I believe that every opportunity should be seized. Grab the bull by the horns and go with it. If you’re playing to 3 people or 3000 just give it your all, you never know who is watching.
4. Meet Everyone.
This is my favourite part of being on the road – meeting people is so important. After the show (especially in new territories) it’s so important to go out and say thank you to the people who came down to see you. I am eternally grateful for my audiences and am so thankful for the opportunity to tell them. There are some amazing people around.
5. Treat yourself.
Stay healthy, stay hydrated, but make sure you look after yourself and have a treat now and again. It’s easy to slip into bad habits, but keeping those burgers and fries (or icecreams and brownies) down to a treat every now and again will make your tour diet more reasonable.
Have fun and enjoy the road. We are in the few people lucky enough to be here! Isn’t it amazing!
