In this Tour Tips segment, the folk duo, Madisen Ward and The Mama Bear, shares their tips for being on the road. You can check out their advice and listen to their newest single, “Everybody’s Got Problems”, after the break.
Tip#1. Abandon any advice and/or Tips. Kidding. The first tip is to stay well rested. Getting good sleep is paramount; not just for performing well on stage, but also for keeping a level head and making the best decisions.
Tip#2. Maintaining good communication with your fellow travel-mates. A good chemistry can make a world of difference when traveling with other musicians. The type of chemistry that not only respects communication but the importance of silence as well.
Tip#3. Are you still with us? Cool. Try being present while you’re on the road. Things can move fast once you fall into a rhythm, and days can start blurring into each other. Even if the city doesn’t offer much, it’s still your life; remember to notice your surroundings, don’t experience the journey with your eyes closed.
Tip#4. Healthy eating. So apparently you’re supposed to do this whether you’re on the road or not, but who am I to say? Eating light before a show is always helpful, and eating healthy will give you that good energy you need just before a show. As much as I love junk food it just isn’t conducive to performing well on stage. Timing your meals appropriately is important too; you don’t wanna be full on stage, nor do you wanna pass out from zero energy.
Tip#5. You made it to the end! I barely made it this far myself! Ok, so final tip; respect everyone. Even if you don’t like the person; ultimately, you need the help of other people in this business, and they won’t give you any help if you’re unbearable to work with. Respect goes a long way, and will always make the journey go smoother. Ok, that’s it; all out of tips. Thank you so much for reading, kind people; at least I assume you’re people. I guess you could be a Cat reading this.
