Magic Giant – TOUR TIPS

In this Tour Tips segment, Zambricki Li of the folk revival band, Magic Giant, gives you some advice for being on the road. You can check out the feature, after the break.

1) Stay with Close friends/New Friends/Friends of Friends: Tour is always a whirlwind and it’s sometimes hard to schedule quality time. Those who wake up together brunch together! If not try and grab a bite before you leave town again.

2) Tours often have “per diems” or daily food stipends. It’s about enough for a meal or a round of drinks. Pick the meal. If you’re in the middle of nowhere try and find a grocery store over fast food. You can also use the different perspective of travel to break some habits. Once our drummer on a tour quit biting his nails(he has since started again) Some habits die hard.

3) Sleeping shades: You know em, the eye mask things people use on airplanes. Embrace the rockstar vibe for a minute and get some true REM badass sleep. Some tours I wear mine like a necklace and crash whenever possible.

4) Portable Phone Charger/extra phone charger: Your phone charger will disappear at some point definitely. It’s probably someone in the band who stole it and they probably won’t admit it. The portable charger is amazing and you can charge it overnight while you charge your phone Also don’t get left behind by the tour bus. In case, you do have your phone charged and ready will allow you to Uber and catch up.

5) Turn off your phone now and then: digital detox is the best cure for a tour hangover and it’s really easy to spend hours a day glued to the phone while the beautiful countryside passes you by.

6) Make time for family: Use the opportunity to see obscure college friends and the second cousin you never see. Your grandma would love to see you even if it’s for 15 minutes. Putting a favorite uncle on the list will surely up next years’ Christmas present. Our personal favorite thing to do is cook someone breakfast in their own home(never happens they love it:) Play em a song in the driveway before you go and don’t forget to do the dishes.
