Maker – DREAM TOUR

In this Dream Tour segment, the rock ‘n roll band, Maker, let you know who they would like on their ultimate tour lineup. You can check out the feature, after the break.

We’d kick things off with the original bad boys of Rock N Roll; The Faces. The fact they toured with a bar and barman on stage perfectly sums up the attitude of this band. They always looked like they were having a good time amongst themselves, and more importantly a good time WITH the audience. There was no separation of band and gig-goer. It was very much a “we’re all in this together” vibe. That’s definitely something we like to bring to our performances.
In a night of ‘How do you follow that’s’, next up we’ll have the soul funk odyssey of Parliament Funkadelic, and we want 1976 era full on furry sombrero Michael Hampton, and nappy wearing Gary Shidder to be there PLEASE! The band could totally hypnotize their audience once they locked onto a groove. The performances were the perfect blend of showmanship and natural musical chemistry. What seemed so tight in its delivery, also offered the juxtaposition of freedom & feeling. The only problem we might have is getting them off stage as 24-minute funk freak-outs are notoriously difficult to interrupt. Probably.
Ask us what one of our favourite LIVE album is and we’ll tell you Joe Cocker – Mad Dogs & Englishmen. Ask us what one of our favourite albums full stop is and we’ll tell you the same record. That’s how good this band were live. Leon Russell lead the band effortlessly recreating & rearranging some of the finest songs of the 60s & 70s, and Joe squealed with all the soul and power that not many singers, of any generation, could match. Maybe we could sneak on stage and join the backing singers and be a part of what was one of the most magical live bands of all time. The track Space Captain used to be a staple of our live sets and was always a show stopper.
That’s definitely going to be tough for us to follow. That being said, though, we may have overlooked the most difficult aspect of this dream gig scenario, and that is that 90% of all those magnificent artists and musicians are unfortunately dead. I guess Rod Stewart singing volume 19 of the Greatest American Songbook, followed by us it is then. Dammit.

Keep up with the band on Facebook and Twitter!
