While we are on the road, we like to put on some chill music to get in the zone. Jazz, nu disco, good 90’s hip-hop or whatever we feel like. It often ends up by Odile and I (Emma) mashing up songs, singing to some Drake on top of a Tame Impala hit. I guess we are doing it as a vocal warm up. Girls just wanna’ have fun and it is more challenging that way! We also sometimes put the set in the background to remember the last details we need to check up individually.
Later, after the sound check is done, Jessy (bass) and Dragos (keys) are pretty much in the same mood. After taking a 30 minutes power nap, Jessy smokes cigarettes to relax while Dragos is really big on having a white beer, or two. The boys lay down a bit and stay calm and in a good mood for the show.
Odile (vocals) is always going to go for a walk. She walks non-stop until she steps up on stage. Small steps, big steps, she won’t stop. That makes her focus and get in the zone before singing. Ten minutes before the show, she is going to go on for quick breathing exercises to be totally ready.
For my part, I need to focus my head on something else to be at my best! So I usually take my phone and go for an hour of browsing the net: blogs, news, name it. I give news to good friends so we can talk about anything but the upcoming show. I keep the last 5 minutes to really slow down my breath and chill.
