Message to Venus – 4th ROAD BLOG from the “Pushing ‘The Envelope’ Tour”

The rock band, Message to Venus, is currently on the “Pushing ‘The Envelope’ Tour”. While they’re on this tour, they will be blogging for us. You can check out their fourth entry (with pictures) written by the band’s lead singer, Jandre Nadal, after the break.

“After playing Lincoln, NE we left of the last rest stop somewhere in South Dakota frustrated and pissed. So I ask the custodian “hey man, you have a faucet around?” He got upset and replayed “you aren’t planning on bathing in public are you? Here in the state of South Dakota it is ILLEGAL to shower in public!” I was like “dude, we have a shower tent and we will do it with swimsuits”, he didn’t even let me finish talking just walked. I frustratedly headed towards our van and as I’m about to get back in with my stinky ass and sticky balls I notice some people walking their dogs, taking little dog shits in the 2 acres of you don’t need to pick up your dog’s shit. That’s fucked up! I can’t rinse my balls off in a covered tent but your mastiff can take a shit in my face. “Come on, are fucking kidding me?”

So we left to Michigan to a music festival we were participating in. Along with like more than 50 bands including Taproot, Mushroomhead and Hed (pe). We had a 16 hour drive to get there, holly fucking shit! We saw the sunset and drove into dawn, John drove 6 hours, every 5 minutes he would say “the sun is coming” dude it’s fucking 7AM! A case of Red Bull later, we arrived at the location, parked our rented Mercedes Benz Sprinter, other bands were looking at us like if we were the Red Hot Chili Peppers. It was funny as shit. Jitters because of lack of sleep and excess of caffein. We had the pleasure to meet some great bands and good people. Everyone was cool. So many good bands played. Most of them were hardcore or metal. We are not. I have to admit, I was a bit concerned but hey, we do our thing we have our style. We just hoped to be a fresh breath of air for the audience. The gig was great! We sold some merch, we played our asses off as we always do. Only 5 songs though. Fucking festivals always hurrying you to get the fuck off the stage. People you’ve never seen start helping you get your shit off stage like ants on a dead lizard. That night we decided to sleep in a motel. Put the survival mode on standby. It was our first motel night. I took a hot tub bubble bath, prince style. Ordered a huge pizza and off to sleep.

Then we go to Chicago. Finally after 13 years. Back in Chicago. I love this city. So well organized, great venues, hot chicks, amazing art, the bean, lake beach. Yeah it’s a beach on a lake. Water is fucking cold. My old man Jimi has been giving me so much shit about going to Chicago and getting pics of Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters things. It’s a trip how this Blues town became the Music City it is now. Good fucking bands every night.

We arrive and meet up with our good friend MetalKid (Papo). He greets us with some homemade ribs, mashed potatoes and fresh salad. Not to mention samples of his Puerto Rican moonshine. We had a great time and saw the sunset into the skyline of downtown Chicago. The next day we headed south to a place called Pekin. We walked into a nice little bar called Alibi and played another good show. No mistakes, no technical difficulties. Bunch of young guys that saw us bought our merch. So thankful for all the support!

Then we loaded our van with the gear and back to Chicago to MetalKid’s pad and enjoy our luxury showers and meals for another 48 hours. After that we’re go back to survival mode, tuna, peanut butter and cold gallon showers at rest stops. We actually miss this, for we are road warrior ready for the next big thing.” -Jandre
