Modern Alibi - PRESHOW RITUALS
Join us as Modern Alibi shares what they do before taking the stage.
In this Preshow Rituals segment, the alternative rock band, Modern Alibi, reveals what they do before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:
We are a fairly new band and have only been playing shows together for about a year, so we are kind of still establishing our preshow rituals. There are still things we learn at every single show. While probably common sense, there are some things we’ve learned the hard way—such as 1) NEVER take down three Taco Bell party packs an hour before going on stage, 2) Hydrate, but not the hour before the show because you never know who may have snuck into the green room occupying your bathroom during your 90-second drum solo break, and 3) never forget to charge your in-ears.
The day of a show, we spend the time we need setting up, then head out for a light meal with our usual group of friends who support us at almost every show. It’s a pretty lively bunch and sets the mood for us early on. After sound check, Holden disappears to do his vocal warmups in some secluded spot, Sloane and Josh re-tune guitars, and Christian warms up on his drum pad. But about an hour before the show, it’s usually just the four of us in the green room where we have a super intense, competitive Mario Kart tournament and the adrenaline kicks in! Then Holden rifles through his wardrobe options and ends up putting on the same black t-shirt, Christian puts on his jacket—ditching his shirt, Josh fixes his ponytail, Sloane throws back one last RedBull and we are off to the stage.
We realize that there is never going to be a perfect show, so our objective is to try to create music and shows that give people an escape from whatever may be going on in their lives. We just want them to feel their best and lose their minds with us through our music and high energy performance. With this in mind, we are able to keep our nerves under control and just go out and have a blast. It helps that the four of us are the best of friends, both on and off the stage.
