A curated tour and lineup can influence everything from the vibe and presence of the show to even the level of musicality that is reached on any given night. While I haven’t yet done extensive touring as MONOGEM, I have a number of dream tour scenarios that would be an absolute dream come true.
Little Dragon is jaw-dropping live. I’ve been lucky enough to see them a couple of times and have left each time with a million creative ideas floating around in my head, their live show is so stimulating. I’m always inspired by Yukimi’s innovative fashion choices and her smooth AF, slinky R&B vocals. She is a beautiful example of creative vision and undeniable talent. There are a lot of instrumental sections during Little Dragon’s set which I really admire; as a band, they are so strong. Experiencing tight rhythm sections influences and forces me to work hard to create a vibe on stage, even without vocals. I would love to tour with Little Dragon — I can’t imagine getting to feel so creative on a nightly basis!
Solange is another artist I would be thrilled to tour with. Her stage production and vision, in my opinion, is at the forefront of the music industry. A Seat at the Table might be one of the best albums I have ever heard, not to mention she is a total badass releasing exclusively on her own record label. If I were to tour with Solange, I would probably want to invest in some dancers and focus on creating a landscape that would work well with hers. I’ve seen so many opening bands that seem to fall flat next to the headliners, surely that is slightly expected, but if I were to be given the opportunity to tour with one of my dream acts, I would do everything in my power to enhance the night with my own dynamic.
James Blake and Jack Garratt would be pretty high up on my dream tour list. I listen to both of these artists on the daily and am a huge fan of everything they do, but I am also wildly impressed by how self-sufficient these two acts can be. While they both tour with full bands and different setups, I am equally entertained by their solo sets and it is something I strive to do in the future. Grimes and BANOFFEE are two female artists who have the same abilities: their shows can be entirely solo while captivating huge audiences with huge energy. Touring with any of these acts would be exciting, motivating, and would inspire me to be a better musician and performer.
Keep up with the artist on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
