The Montreals

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the indie rock band, The Montreals, shares two of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.

Stef: Okay, so get this, it’s New Years, we’re in Melbourne supporting Kingswood and Australian run of shows. NYE we played at the Espy in Melbourne and there’s a wild energy in the air. We finish our set and head upstairs to the green room, and we’re greeted by the bar manager called “Fez” (the biggest legend going ‘round) and he says “whatever you want, you got it”. We took advantage of his generosity and he’s bringing up trays of ‘sprotinis, bottles of jager, tequila, tequila, the works. You know those nights where you’re like “this could be a movie” – it was one of those.
One of the bar staff tells us he’s from our hometown and was in a hardcore band. For whatever reason, he thought he needed to demonstrate by screaming all these songs to us for like 20 minutes while doing a lot of shots (to be fair he was pretty good at screaming). Anywho, like an hour goes by, while he’s on the clock, so another bar staff comes into the room and starts screaming at him (not hardcore screaming, pissed-off screaming) to get downstairs. By this point, our new friend has sunk a lot of booze, and so he drunkenly tells his coworker “it’s all good brother”. It was not all good. He literally got fired on the spot whilst we’re all sitting there just having a wicked time.
Gus: Also on this same tour, we played a show in Mornington where a fan had a seizure and we had to stop mid-song. Everybody thought he was just drunk because he fell over and vomited everywhere, so they were yelling at us to keep playing. Our photographer also thought he was just drunk so he took a flash photo of him. It was not a vibe. We played the rest of the set while the janitor cleaned up the spew. He was totally fine though, thank god!

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
