Motionyear – FIRST CONCERT EVER

In this First Concert Ever segment, Alex Kouvaris, from the pop punk band, Motionyear, talks about the story of his first experience with live music. You can check out the story, after the break.

When I was about 15 years old, my dad (who lived in New York) came to visit me so he could bring me to my first concert in Boston, MA at The Orpheum Theater. I’ve been to quite a few as a child that he brought me to, such as The Doobie Brothers, KISS, Billy Joel, and Eddie Money, but this was the first band I love and listen to that I personally bought tickets for. Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin were performing and it was SUCH a killer show. Both bands filled the room with high energy, I stood up the entire time and sang every lyric until I lost my voice by the end of the night. The coolest part was before the show started, Three Days Grace was hanging out in front of their tour bus and I was able to meet and get a picture with them.
They weren’t bands my dad had listened to, he even found it to be a great show and a very tight performance. It was a memorable night I will cherish forever as I lost him to COVID in March of 2020. Growing up, he always would take me to some very talented bands and musicians. Because I was so young at that time, I couldn’t fully appreciate live performances until we attended the Orpheum Theater show. I still remember that concert vividly – the heavy guitars, the solid bass, and the punching of the drums (especially the bass drum) going right through you. You could smell the fog machine as it was pouring through the theater so the light beams could glow bright. It was just so cool as a 15-year-old and I enjoyed every minute of it.
Between the bands rocking out, having a great live sound, and a light show that drew your attention in, I knew this was exactly something I wanted to do with my own band. Being on stage, getting the crowd hyped up, and hearing your own lyrics be sung back to you was indescribable. I was on a hiatus from 2016 through 2020, but after losing my dad, I knew that getting back into music was crucial, especially since it’s a huge part of my life and a passion. Motionyear has recorded 5 brand new songs, with ‘Disarray’ releasing everywhere on November 18th. They’re by far the most mature material to date, both lyrically and musically, and I cannot wait for existing and new fans to hear.
