Neck Deep has kicked off their American Tour here in Chicago at Subterranean. Bringing with on this tour are Light Years and Chicago’s own, Knuckle Puck . I can’t think of a better way to spend a Friday night then with these talented musicians.
Starting the show off was Ohio band, Light Years. Their record, I Won’t Hold This Against You, came last June. Playing songs such as “Us Vs Them”, “Uphill Battles”, “Parking Lots”, “Deadlines”, “Throwing My Life”, and others, they are worth getting to the show early to check out. Performing they seem good hearted and with an intimate venue like Subterranean they were cracking jokes on stage and gave off this energy that got the crowd pumped. I definitely want them to come back to Chicago to play again. If they do, hopefully they will have better luck with their van because after the show it got broken into and someone stole some of their things. First night of tour, and that happens, that’s got to be rough. For this weekend only they put up their record for a ‘pay what you want’ fee to try and help raise money. I’m happy that despite the break in happening they continued on with the tour, instead of backing out. Props to them.
Continuing the night, was one of Chicago’s own bands, Knuckle Puck. I feel that this band sort of became a hit overnight. One minute they are playing house shows and the next they are on Neck Deep’s full U.S. tour. I’m proud of them and excited to see them pop up on more tours. Their ep, The Weight That You Buried, came out last August. If you haven’t yet heard that or their other tracks from Don’t Come Home, then go do so. They also recently released a 7″ split with Neck Deep, which you should check out as well. Once they took the stage, it was a cue for all the stage diver’s to emerge from the crowd. Playing songs such as “Gold Rush”, “No Good”, and “Give Up”, they had everyone off their feet. I love that Joe didn’t even really have to sing since the crowd did it for him. Be sure to check them out on this tour and in the Spring for the Heart Attack Tour with Man Overboard, Transit, and Forever Came Calling.
Neck Deep could not of had a better spot to have their show at than at a small venue like Subterranean. It was perfect for the massive amount of moshing, stage diving, and singing with Ben into the mic, that went on. The only thing I wish is for the set to have been longer. However, I was very pleased with the setlist they had. Everyone was singing along the whole time to ones such as “Over and Over”, “Head to the Ground”, “A Part of Me”, “What Did You Expect”, and many others. They were also all nice enough to hang out right after the set.
This is one night of pop punk you do not want to miss.
