North of 64 - CRAZY TOUR STORIES

The first time we ever toured as a band, the other band we were on the road with imploded on itself…

Touring with a band can be an unforgettable experience - the highs of playing to packed crowds and the lows of our cramped rental Toyota Rav-4. But when the band you're touring with breaks up halfway through the tour, well, that's a whole new level of crazy. That's exactly what happened to us on our first tour. It was a wild ride from start to finish.

Our band, North of 64, had been set to hit the road for 10 days, playing shows across Ontario and Quebec with one other band. Before the tour even started the other band had disagreements about every little detail. We were just happy to go along for the ride.

We were all getting along great, enjoying the experience of touring together and sharing the stage each night. But then, halfway through the tour, things started to get ugly. After the third night, the band were not on speaking terms with their singer and decided to stay in a separate hotel. We thought it would blow over, and they would continue on professionally.

The next day, four hours through a seven hour drive we got a call from the band’s guitarist and long story short he said they are breaking up and aren’t playing the remaining 4 shows. So naturally we sat in the parking lot of a truck stop, smoked 7 cigarettes and tried to figure out what the hell we were going to do - They had half of our gear in their van. We decided to stop at the pie stand, get a few pies and go home. A pretty sad ending to this story.

At the end of the day, our crazy tour story taught us an important lesson about the unpredictability of life on the road. No matter how much planning you do, things can still go wrong. But we also learned that when faced with unexpected challenges, it's important to stay positive and work together as a team. Although it didn’t go as planned we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Although we only had half the tour we were expecting, we have this truly unforgettable story of our first tour as North of 64.
