Even in this day and age of digital music and discovering bands online, Oberhofer found themselves in a unique situation on Sunday night at Lincoln Hall. Despite not having an official release other than a 7” for sale at their shows, here they were headlining a show at 11:00PM on a Sunday night. The big question was could they pull it off?
Strutting on stage with guitar in hand and a crazy multi-colored shirt, Brad Oberhofer got to work right away with winning the crowd over. As the band started tuning their instruments, there was some friendly stage banter back and forth with the crowd before getting underway.
At this point, Oberhofer let the music do the talking. Despite the late hour, the crowd was into every song. The first loud cheer of the night was their 3rd song, I Could Go. With a very unique blend of power pop and punk, the energy on stage stayed very high throughout the night. Other notable songs were Haus, which had great reverb-laden vocals, and Away FRM U, which drew the loudest cheers of the night as soon as the jangly opening riff started. By the time set closer, Gold, started, there were sweaty people everywhere despite being in an air conditioned venue. The band tore through 9 songs in less than 40 minutes and the energy exuded by the fans and band members was immense. Oberhofer is a great up and coming band and this performance really showed why they are such an up and coming band. The likelihood of seeing them in such an intimate venue in the future is very small.
