The Orphan The Poet – TOUR PRANKS

In this Tour Pranks segment, the alternative band, The Orphan The Poet, share some pranks that have happened on tour. You can check out the feature, after the break.

Okay, so let me start by saying our band is on a mission to spread the word of a little thing we like to call the #BananaSantana (I don’t know, it just rhymes, ok). It’s a simple concept. Basically, you just grab a banana peel and duct tape it to an object of your choosing. Filing cabinets, pets, Queens Of The Stone Age’s tour bus…they’ve all been targets of the #BananaSantana.

Well, our magnum opus came at the end of a tour with our pals in Stages And Stereos. Arriving at the venue for load in, David happened to notice a discount grocery store across the street with a sale on bananas…yes, bananas– jackpot. And just like the turning point in a Disney movie starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, we looked at each other and knew exactly what to do.

“All the bananas?” the cashier said, as we proceeded to clear their entire potassium-filled inventory. Now, of course, the joke would have gone over just as well with 40, maybe 50 bananas, but if there’s one thing The Orphan The Poet isn’t shy about, it’s going the extra-mile when it is absolutely unnecessary.

147 peeled bananas later, we took the stage taping compost to anything we could find. Guitars, drums, band-members…no surface was left uncovered. And with a final strum of the guitars, we took a bow and ended what was not only an incredible tour, but our greatest tour prank to date.
