I tried to really think this one through. If there would be no limits to my ultimate dream tour lineup, dead or alive; still rocking on or split up; then the first band that comes to my mind is, of course, the Beatles. Joking around with Ringo Starr over breakfast, writing songs with Paul McCartney after shows, watching them soundcheck every night… It has to be the Beatles, right? Right?!

Well… if it wasn’t for that one concert in Italy in the summer of 2019. When I turned to my sister after Bon Ivers’ two-hour set and said (with tears running down my face): “This is the best day of my life.” And I meant it. And nothing came close to it since.

I can’t describe the feeling in that open-air arena when he started playing “Skinny Love.” Three young Italian guys behind me crying in each other’s arms. He hardly said a word between songs and it still felt like we had a one on one conversation for the entirety of those last two hours. Nothing’s perfect, but that night was pretty perfect and I felt….hopeful. If I could have that every night, I would. And again, if there were no limits, we might just take the Beatles on the road with us as well.
