In this Dream Tour segment, the indie pop artist, Payson Lewis, reveals who he would want on his ultimate tour lineup. You can check out their picks below:
You know, I was thinking about this a lot. I had come up with a few different lists. I tried different themes, genres, and time periods. But for some reason, none of them ever felt like my actual dream. Then I realized it was because I was playing too much by the rules of our expectations of what a tour is.
That’s when I thought, you know what, this is my dream. And like the kind we have when we’re fast asleep, a dream can be ANYTHING. So I started to think about it a little differently. Here’s what I came up with.
For my dream tour, there wouldn’t be one set lineup but rather a traveling “supergroup.” Traveling from city to city, playing smaller, more intimate venues with a rotating cast of musicians and front liners. I’d also want every night to be, in a way, a secret show. Where the audience doesn’t really know who they’re going to get or what the band is going to play. Every single night would be different.
The artists could come from any genre, pop, hip hop, folk, rock, indie, R&B - whatever. But on this tour, the performances would all be organic. No tracks. Every sound would be made live - a band featured instrumentalists and special guests.
If you’re having a hard time imagining it, here’s an example of what I’d imagine. Close your eyes and picture you’re in a small music venue, maybe 300-500 people. As the lights dim, the “house band” enters the stage. Then, over the course of the night, different headliners take their turn with the band. Maybe the night starts with Remi Wolf and Madison Cunningham, followed by Kendrick Lamar, then Joni Mitchell surprises everyone and sings two songs. After Joni, Dawes plays a set before wrapping the night up with that night’s headliner, Harry Styles.
The next night, a different city, a different little venue, different artists, and a whole brand new experience.
