My first concert experience was Blink 182 when I was in the 8th grade. My mom dropped me and 3 friends off at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in the Woodlands Tx (which is right outside of Houston). I remember vividly that it was pretty muggy outside and had been raining that day and continued raining through the opening acts. We were wet and hot but the rain stopped by the time Blink came out and I was ready.
I knew every word and had been air drumming every song for the past year! The concert was everything and more than I imagined and being 14 years old I could relate to their immature onstage banter between songs. Most notably, because of the earlier rain, sections of the giant hill that fills the back half of the pavilion had turned into a mudslide and I remember doing multiple mug dives down the hill. When my mom came to pick us up I remember her saying “what the hell were you guys doing? I thought you were going to a concert” haha.
It was such a rush being at a live show and from that day forward that I knew I wanted to play drums in front of crowds.
