Project 86 – TOUR TIPS (Part 2 of 2)

Rock band, Project 86, have written a set of Tour Tips that you guys can learn from. You can check out part 2 of 2 after the break.

6. Music Pro Insurance – Protect your gear from theft, baggage throwers, and crackheads.  www.musicpro.com
7. DO NOT put band stickers on your trailer or van. – You might as well put a neon sign in the window of your van that says, “Attention thieves!!  We will be sleeping from 3 AM to 9 AM and we would love to invite you to our hotel during this time!!!  Just be relatively quiet, bring a crowbar, and you are all set!!!” The goal is to look like a Rugby team or a church youth group when people see you driving by…anything but a band.
8. Frequent Flyer miles – Be very anal about saving them.  They add up fast.  We have accounts with like 8 airlines.
9. Promoters often times overestimate how many people will come to your show. – If the promoter guarantees there will be 500 kids at your show, unless that is a number you consistently draw, or there are 400 presales, you must divide this number by five, then subtract 97.  That is the real number of kids that will be at your show.
10.  Give yourself a finite time to succeed with your musical endeavors. – If you are sleeping on floors at random houses or at Ryfo homes for the first year of touring, no big deal.  If you are doing this in year five, it’s time to investigate other career options.
