1) NEVER eat at Barnhill’s Country Buffet on tour. Seriously. This is just a disaster waiting to happen. Shouldn’t need much explanation here.
2) Make sure you pack a pillow and a blanket cause you should never be surprised how many different places could end up being your bed for the evening.
3) Save the drinking for AFTER everything is loaded up. You don’t want drunks trying to keep track of everything that you’ve taken into the venue. That’s the best way to lose something pretty damn important for the next show. Like, y’know, merch stands, guitar cords…or even guitars.
4) Don’t be cocky to people you don’t know. Always be humble and let everyone know that you appreciate them giving you an opportunity in their city, no matter how shitty the club or how many people are there. It’s your job to impress the ones that are there and get them to spread the word so that, next time you come through (possibly to a different venue), you have more people at your show.
5) Invest in a portable gas grill and/or a crockpot. Seriously – bands spend stupid amounts of money on FOOD on the road. Especially if it’s not part of your guarantee where you play. When you get to town, go to the grocery store and get something to put on the grill and/or some soup to make in the crockpot. You can feed the entire band for $10-15 bucks rather than spending $10-15 a person out somewhere.
