We were touring Germany and were half through the tour. Kind of looking forward for a day off. Just a few more shows and then…
Just played a great gig the night before and had a great after party..morning after…everyone in the van, please…heading for the next city/club…came in early and walked in to the club and said hi to the people working there. Went backstage to have a few beers and something to eat. Feeling really relaxed and good being there in time.
While we were hanging out backstage, really relaxed, the promoter walks in. He said hi and he welcomed us and was happy to see us there. Then he said…we have a small problem…you are not supposed to be here today…you play here tomorrow!
So faster than a shark everyone was in the van and heading to the next city/club laughing our like hell!
We were on a small tour in Finland in the freezing cold winter and we just played a gig in Helsinki and had a TV interview the day after.
Came to the TV studio kind of hangover from last night. We sat down and had a good interview. They asked a lot of questions about this and that…one of the last questions was “have you ever had any accident or misfortune with you van or bus. We said no..nothing like that…puhhh…” feeling kind of good with that answer and the interview.
After the interview we went to the van to head for the next city.
Right in the middle of nowhere…in the freezing cold winterland the van broke down!
We had no idea how to fix it…freezing and it was snowing…called our friends but no one had a good answer…we were kind of late so we had to figure out what to do.
We had to call for a tow-truck…waited a few hours for him to come and then we got the van towed to the next city. Arrived just in time for the show!
The day after we had another gig and the question was. How do we get there since the van doesn´t work!? We got to borrow a smaller van and some friends arrange a new backline for us. Day after that gig we were going home to Sweden with the ferry.
We had to push the van on to the ferry in the freezing cold winter morning. One of the guys working in the harbor told us that we couldn´t get the van on the ferry…then he laughed and said “only kidding”…damn…we almost throw him in the ice-cold water!
Arrived in Sweden with another hangover and late down to the deck to get the van.
There were a lot of truck drivers on the ferry waiting for us to get the van out….never seen so many middle fingers in the air when we finally got the van out of the ferry!
Met a friend in the harbor in Stockholm who had his van with him and towed us back home.
Will never forget how much we laughed about that afterwards even if it wasn´t cheap to repair the van. One lesson learned…never borrow a van from a friend unless you know it´s a good one!.
