Recreated – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the melodic metal band, Recreated, shares one of their stories from being on the road. You can check out the story, after the break.

This story took place in late 2012, or to be more specific, it took place on the weekend when the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world, so you can imagine the state everybody was in. We had been on a tour around Sweden and were ending the tour with a gig in Stockholm.

We had rented a minivan which needed to be returned the following day, so we had to head back home straight after the show. It was late and only Erik was contracted to drive the rental. It didn´t take long until Erik got too tired to drive and responsible as we are, we decided to pull over so he could take a nap before continuing our drive home.

We pulled over to a sketchy truck stop, parked the car and everybody fell asleep except me. After 10 minutes I noticed a shady car with tinted windows slowly driving by. It was obvious they were checking us out. I woke Erik up and while we were trying to calm ourselves with logical explanations the car pulled up a little too close to ours and two men in bomber jackets stepped out.

We were now fully panicking and contemplating if we should hit the gas or simply run them over with the car. Thankfully we didn´t but decided it was probably a good idea to at least start the engine. As Erik turned the key one of the men started running towards us with his hand inside the jacket. This was it, this was the end of the world!

The man pulled out his hand of his jacket but instead of a gun it was a badge; the two men were undercover police officers. Apparently, there had been an armed robbery in Stockholm and they were searching for the robbers who had headed in our direction.

It took some time for us to convince them we were not robbers, not criminal or shady in any way, just simply young musicians with a cheap rental car. It didn´t help that they found a sleeping guitarist in the trunk as they were searching the car… After some time they finally let us go and with our bodies full of adrenaline we drove all the way back home without a single stop.
