In this First Concert Ever segment, Gerardo, bassist for the metalcore band, Redeem/Revive, talks about the story of his first experience with live music. You can check out the story, after the break.

Hello, I’m Gerardo, bassist for Redeem/Revive. The first real concert I ever went to, had a tour package consisting of Bring Me The Horizon with Everytime I Die, Oh Sleeper & Architects in Soma San Diego back in our teenage years in the fall of 2009. I remember being a huge fan of Bring Me The Horizon & wanting to see them live me & our guitarist Kriss & I went to go see them together. It’s crazy to think that we’d end up starting a band in the same rock genre years later. We bought our tickets ahead of time & the show ended up selling out the Soma Mainstage.
I honestly didn’t know what to expect going in. When we got there I remember seeing the huge line to get inside. It was the first time seeing so many people that were into the same music as I, gathered in one place which was pretty cool to see. Architects were the opening act & to be honest, I hadn’t heard of any of the bands at the time besides BMTH. I was honestly blown away the stage presence the crowd going nuts the vibration of the 808s piercing through the room I loved it.
Bring Me the Horizon started their set with “Chelsea Smile” & to this day is probably the best live crowd I’ve ever been a part of. The crowd all started jumping the pits were crazy & not one person in the crowd was not moving. I remember Kriss not being a huge fan of BMTH but after the show he was! I remember us both being drenched in sweat after the show literally looked like we had just hopped out of the shower with our clothes on. After the great experience from that show, we attended a lot more shows in the area of similar bands of the genre.
That show definitely got us more involved in the scene. Years later Kriss and I started Redeem/Revive. Crazy to think that was our first show & years later we’d be in a band of a similar genre. We even ended up opening the first Self Help Fest headlined by A Day To Remember & Bring Me The Horizon. It was definitely a good feeling to go from them being your first concert & getting inspired to later open for them on the same stage. It will forever be one of my favorite concerts of my life & still a fan of them to this day.

Keep up with the band on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
