Roots Like Mountains – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

Roots Like Mountains has been out on tour four times already this year, but our most recent run was our first with a full tour package of four bands. Between dates in North Carolina and Washington DC on the Dysfunctional Family Tour, we decided to spend our day off in style, grabbing a couple hotel rooms and partying down on Virginia Beach. We spent the day in the Atlantic, hanging out and relaxing with our new tour-bros, and then headed back to the hotel once everyone was sunburned and exhausted.

We had two rooms at the Clarion on the third floor with a view of the ocean, and after the heat and humidity of North Carolina, the real treat was the big, fat air conditioner in front of the window. Showers ensued, and plenty of napping on the beds, while some of the older guys took off to keep their party buzz rolling at the local bars on the strip.

Our drummer Tyler came out of the shower looking super fresh, wrapped in nothing but a hotel towel, and John, the drummer for one of the other bands decided it was time to play a game. He burst out with a “HEY!” that shocked everyone into silence. Extending his arm dramatically to point at Tyler, he followed up with, “No towels for Roots Like Mountains.” Tyler moved without skipping a beat.

He dropped the towel to the floor, revealing the glory of his manhood for all in the room to see. The flash only lasted about a second before someone grabbed the edge of the towel in midair and handed it back, but the point was made. John blushed clean through his sunburn for a moment, obviously not expecting Tyler to be that willing to play hardball, before heading over to give Tyler a strategically angled bro-hug. After he had re-wrapped his uh… Little Tyler of course.

Better yet was the moment a few days later when we were hanging outside a venue in Middletown and talking about our ages for the first time. Tyler told everyone he was only 20, and after the initial disbelief, John blurted, “Wait, so you’re saying that show you gave me the other night wasn’t even LEGAL!?”

It was a great start to our summer, which continues with the launch of Roots Like Mountains’ brand new EP, Lost In Second Thoughts, and the Reckless Riot Tour, both making their debut on July 5th.
