One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to imagine myself on stage, touring big arenas. I could feel the energy of the crowd, see the lights and set design, and imagine feeling 100% free walking out on that stage. If I ever had trouble sleeping this was my go-to fantasy to put me right into dreamland.
If I could choose anyone to tour with right now I would put together the artists that have inspired me the most the past few years; the artists that have shaped my music to what it is and what I want it to become. Call it a mini-festival if you will. I couldn’t possibly pick just one or two. Lets dive in!
I would call this the “Dreamscape Tour” and the only artist I could imagine opening up the night would be Alina Baraz. When I first heard “Urban Flora” I was floored. Her work with Galimatias is just that, a dream. I can imagine her opening with “Show Me” amidst a stage of white. Flanked with LED white manzanita trees, soaked in a haze of fog, and the atmosphere dripping in her sensual vocals, the crowd would be instantly entranced.
Next, I would bring out the group that’s inspired the hell out of me this year, RKCB. They’re R&B infused melodies and vocals wrapped in modern electro beats is pure perfection. You can’t help but move to songs like “Elevated” and “Elision” then get completely sucked into Casey Barth’s sensual vocals on songs like “Comatose” and “Enough”. Sexistential it is!
You can’t talk about dreamy landscapes and passionate music without mentioning Banks. I can see her gracing the all white stage in all black with her haunting melodies and truth driven lyrics. She was one of the first artists that really pulled me back into songwriting heavily over the last few years. Some must plays would be “This is What it Feels Like”, “Fuck Em Only We Know”, “Goddess”, “Gemini Feed”…pretty much her entire catalog is amazing.
The last main artist I would absolutely have to sing a song with is Jarryd James. Since this is my dream tour I would want to sing a song with all of the artists, but I could definitely hear myself singing a duet with Jarryd. I’m obsessed with the new wave of Electronic R&B and tunes like “Sure Love” and “Give Me Something” you just feel deep in your bones.
A special treat for the tour would be DJ sets between each act by the amazing Odesza. One of my favorite memories was seeing Justin Timberlake years back when he had Timbaland on tour acting as the DJ during wardrobe changes. He had the entire arena on their feet and I think Odesza would be icing on the cake for the “Dreamscape Tour”!
Keep up with the artist on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
