– Do not miss your flight! Set your alarm the night before you go to bed and set 10 of them…seriously…be so annoyed by your own alarm you get out of bed out of pure frustration…trust me this will come in handy when you are playing naked twister the night before till the sun comes up and just want to sleep in! Also, get TSA pre-approved & bring carry-on luggage….Always!
– Make sure you soundcheck & be early! I can not tell you how many times venues do not pay attention to riders and are not set up for what you need…by doing soundcheck you ensure you will be good to go when its showtime…also its good to show up 30 minutes early and see what the room is like…although you will probably be super annoyed that the opening DJ is burning the shit out of you ….being there early & getting a feel for the room will help you have a better show!
– Be prepared! Spend time on the plane & at the hotel working on your music so that you are prepared for the room….there is nothing more annoying to me than watching a DJ play a set in the order they put it together when the crowd is not responding…phoning it in is not optional…you have a responsibility as an artist to your fans to make sure they get your very best every time….
– Meet everyone! From the club owner to the security to the bathroom attendant and the valet…literally meet everyone…people in nightlife move from club to club and it’s always good to have a strong network in every city so that each city feels like home….Make sure you engage your fans at every show and meet as many of them as possible…remember they spent their money to come see you and you gotta appreciate each and every one of them!
– Make time for leisure….if you live out of a suitcase the road can get lonely but each city has amazing things to offer….go see them…eat at a restaurant that captures the cities vibe and see something unique…embrace the culture around you and make sure you take care of yourself on the road by getting “some” Sleep & staying Healthy…being sick on the road sucks! Take your vitamins
