My pre-show ritual is exactly that; ritualistic. Typically the day starts with me watching full live sets on YouTube while I start my day. I have a tried and true rotation of Anderson .Paak, the 1975, Bring Me the Horizon, Kendrick, and old hardcore sets that I like to dive into. I like doing my vocal warm-ups around this time as well as a light jog. It really kicks up a notch when I get to the venue – that’s when the rituals actually start. Soundcheck gives me a nice boost in energy, but that’s mainly for the technical side of things. I make sure to do a yoga routine my dad taught me and get myself limber. Usually another round of vocal warm-ups, too. Then, I essentially meditate until it’s time to play. I have a guided meditation I like to follow that really clears my head and resets me so that I can go 110% on stage. I don’t really like talking to people before shows – maybe I’m being a diva but I prefer isolating myself until after all is said and done. My band and I will link before our time and have a powwow before it’s time to let loose. Showtime comes and I disappear in it for 45 minutes and I don’t tap back into reality until I walk off stage. At least that’s what it always feels like.
