In this Tour Tips segment, the UK-based metalcore band, Shields, recommends their advice for being on the road. You can check out the feature, after the break.

1- SLEEP
Make sure you’re getting enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can seriously affect you moral on tour. Sleep in the van whenever you can as most nights you’re probably sleeping on a hard floor.

2- PASS TIMES
Have a bunch of little things to keep you entertained and those long drives can be really shitty if you are sitting and just waiting to arrive at the next show. I usually listen to music, read, write, and most importantly (if your Joe), playing Lord Of the Rings on my Gameboy Advance.

3- PARTY BUT DONT OVER DO IT
Despite the common conception, tour is not just sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. If you get drunk every day on tour and indulge in life’s other awesomely harmful pleasures, then you WILL feel like shit and if you’re a vocalist you will probably blow your voice out. Touring is great but keep it professional, you are being paid to do a job, don’t suck!

4- HYDRATION
Vocalist’s. There is nothing better for your vocals then drinking loads of water, it keeps your energy up and it will really help you to keep going on a daily basis. Just drinking lots of water, in general, will make you feel more awake and active.

5 – BE NICE TO EACH OTHER
One of the most important things to look after is your band’s morale. Try not to get on your band mate’s nerves, help load in and out and don’t be a dick!
