Shiraz Lane – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the Finnish rock band, Shiraz Lane, talks about some of their crazy moments from touring. You can check out the feature, after the break.

In November 2014, we did a show in Toronto, Canada. After our show, we got back to our hotel for just a while to prepare for some partying in local bars. Little did we know that all bars close around 2am there (and it was already sometime after 2) so we ended up wandering in Toronto’s streets pretty drunk looking for bars or parties. After a couple hours of search, we gave up and started looking for a taxi, which obviously we couldn’t find for a while. When we finally got one and sat inside, we realized there was this disgusting stink. Jani (guitarist) had stepped on dog shit. That wasn’t our best night out partying.

In some festival in Finland, you could do a bungee jump from like 100meters or something and me and Miki (guitarist) wanted to give it a go. We were able to do it together at the same time if they tied us together back against back. We got lifted up and just as we jumped down, we realized the safety guy had forgotten to remove one safety string or something – we fell down only just to lose our feet touching the basket we were jumping from. So we hung out in 100meters with nothing but air under our feet until the safety guy could pull us back into the basket. After that, the jump itself felt magnificent.

We were doing a show in Lahti, Finland, which is a one hour drive away from where we live. I was driving and after the show and getting the gear back to the car, I was supposed to refuel the car. I accidentally put the wrong fuel in the car so it wouldn’t start. The car had to be towed to repairing and we were too far away from home to pay for the taxi or get home any other way. We ended up getting some cheap hotel room and staying there for the night – all of us had to cancel going to work the next day because of that so our bosses weren’t happy.

In Tokyo in 2015, we did a show during the daylight and grabbed some beers after it. It was a small club festival where four other bands were performing there after us, so when the whole event was over we started to be pretty tipsy. We planned to have just a few more drinks with the other bands of the event, get back to our hotel, leave our gear there and head to a bar. However when we finally got back to the hotel, Hannes (singer) and Miki (guitarist) seemed out of their minds since they were starting to be completely hammered. The rest of us and our manager figured out that it was better for them to stay in the hotel so we ditched them there and left into the night by ourselves. After half an hour they found out what we had done and got really pissed, though. They re-arranged the hotel room by turning beds upside down and stuff like that… And ended up searching for us in the nightlife of Tokyo. That was easier said than done and they never found us. They rode the taxi searching for us with all their money and ended up with no money someplace nowhere near our hotel. After all, some kind stranger gave them enough cash to get back to the hotel.
