House of Blues in Chicago welcomed Silverstein, Senses Fail, Hundredth, and Capsize during their fall tour this past Friday.
With Capsize opening the show, they kicked up the energy right off the bat, especially when the lead singer went into the crowd within the first song and kept going into the crowd throughout the set. The band followed cue and kept this energy up running around on stage and jumping all around while encouraging the audience to do the same. This is what makes me want to see them again next time they are here. They also told the crowd how their van had been broken into a few days ago and how thankful they are to be able to continue with the tour. That takes a lot to go on as planned with a tour when all your merch and equipment is stolen right before the tour even starts. I commend them on that and the fact that they were in good spirits regardless shows they really care about the fans and music. If you haven’t yet, listen to their songs “Calming, Crippling”, “Face First” and “I’ll take the Blame”, to see what they are about.

Hundredth took the stage next and you could tell people were getting antsy to start a mosh pit as soon as they started which the crowd eventually did. Their vocalist, Chadwick, spent a good amount of time in the crowd as well, which everyone seemed to enjoy. They recently released a new album, Free, which they played songs off that album as well as older ones as well. All the band members kept moving the whole time and you could feel their vibes bouncing off the crowd. They are definitely not a band to miss seeing live.

Next up was Senses Fail. Playing a mix of favorites such as “Buried a Lie”, “Can’t Be Saved”, “Lady in a Blue Dress”, “Calling All Cars”, and numerous others, Buddy Nielsen, and friends know how to work a crowd. In between songs he would banter with them and as always gave a mini speech on how people should act towards one another. They too always have incredible energy and for some of their songs the crowd could be heard singing over Buddy.

Closing the night was Silverstein. They probably didn’t need anyone to actually put on a show since it seemed like the crowd sang and did it for them. Having been a band for ten years, they have quite the fan base. Playing a mix of favorites, such as “A Midwestern State of Emergency”, “Smile in Your Sleep”, “My Heroine”, “Massachusetts”, “In Silent Seas We Drown”, “If You Could See into My Soul”, “Born Dead”, and many, many more it felt like their set was never going to end. I’m pretty sure most of the audience didn’t want it to either judging by the several mosh pits that opened up and singing along that was going on. Silverstein has been around for a while now and are doing something right. If you haven’t seen them yet live what are you waiting for?
