Sirens and Sailors – 3rd ROAD BLOG from “The Predatour” with Ice Nine Kills

The metalcore band, Sirens and Sailors, is currently on “The Predatour” with Ice Nine Kills, Famous Last Words, Erra and Chasing Safety. While they’re on this tour, the band will be writing an exclusive blog for us. You can check out the band’s third and final entry, after the break.

Hey ghouls & goblins, Doug here from Sirens & Sailors. I’m going to be giving you guys a quick look into my life on the road as a touring drummer! Today was the last day of our run on the “Preda-tour.” It was an amazing experience to share the stage with lots of talented musicians each day.
My days are usually always very similar. I wake up in my little bunk bed in the van, change into my jeans, & head into the nearest Dunkin doughnuts. Today was no different. I awoke after a good nights rest, & headed inside to crave my coffee addiction. After eating & relaxing for a moment, I hopped in the driver seat & began our quick drive to the last show in Hartford, Connecticut. Being a drummer, I’m usually very particular on getting to the venues a little early, to ensure that I have a good spot to stash my drums away before I play. We got there about an hour early & a couple of the other bands were there, hanging outside, chatting & doing what ever. The venue opened & we began to do the dirty work for the day. I used to despise loading in & out each day, but as the years of touring go by, I’m starting to really enjoy the 20-30 minutes of extra physical activity that we all get to take part in. I set up my kit, which I have down to a science by now, & hid it away in one of the many “cubby” like areas that the venue has. The night started & the show was doing quite well. The local talent in the area was awesome. Some of the best opening acts of the tour.
We opened the tour package tonight because our good friends in ‘Chasing Safety’ had some serious vehicle troubles, & had to leave a day early. My new friend Alex (drummer of Erra) has been an awesome dude all tour. We have helped each other on & off stage every night, just to make the trouble of getting an entire drum-set on & off a little easier. Time to play!
This. Show. Ruled. Easily one of my top three of the tour. Crowd had an awesome energy that any musician would feed off of. We played our normal set, loaded off stage, & I began my troublesome duty of putting my stuff away. I always say “A drummers job never ends.” ain’t that the truth? I packed up, packed the trailer, changed, & went back in to catch the remainder of the bands.
This was the last show, so we had to get a little wild. Myself & a couple of other dudes on the package decided to stage dive during ‘Ice Nine Kills’ set. Being my first time stage diving (I know.. I know.. *cue embarrassed emoji*) I was a little weary at first. I let one of the other dudes go before me, & it looked like a blast, I took of my glasses, & jumped for the heavens! I’m quite a little dude, so the crowd had no problem catching me & carrying me off to the side. Twas a blast!
The bands finished up & we all crowded in for a tour photo. After the long process of trying to get each member of 5 touring bands was done, we had a blast saying goodbye. It’s a bittersweet moment with every tour. But all good things must come to an end. We hopped in the van, & headed for home.
The guys & I always go to Denny’s after the last show of a run. it’s kind of our way of saying ‘congrats boys, we did it again!’ After a ‘not-so-lengthy’ drive back to Rochester, I curled up in a ball with my dog & fell asleep. It felt good to be home, but can’t wait to do it all again!
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share this experience with you guys! I hope you had as much fun reading this as I did writing it!
