“While recording the new SOiL album ‘Whole’ in Los Angeles, we rented an apartment to stay in for the 2 months we were there. We would drive to the studio each day and meet up with our producer Ulrich Wild to record. As with most rock bands, when you have a bunch of guys basically living in a college dorm together, things are bound to happen. We had an alley cat we named ‘Junkyard’ that would come by for food from time to time. Beer cans, Captain Morgan bottles, dishes and trash were stacked up everywhere. Yeah, it was home!
During the last week of recording, we had a show at the Whiskey in Hollywood so our crew flew in for the show. Among them was our tour manager, Eddie. We love Eddie. He is a great tour manager and a mascot all wrapped in one. After the Whiskey show, we invited everyone back to our apartment for one last night of drinking. Turns out, after many Jagermiester shots, my destructive side came out. I took the dresser from the bedroom I was in and decided to start karate chopping it up and breaking it over Eddie’s head.
By the next morning the entire dresser was in shambles and broken up all over the apartment. So what do we do? Do we admit we broke it? Do we buy a replacement and hope no one notices? Or do we do what any “normal” band guy would do and rearrange the bedroom to look like it was never there in the first place? Option 3 it is. Rearrange the furniture. Surprisingly enough, we never got charged for it. And we also have a great video of the dresser being smashed over our tour manager’s face to remember the occasion. I think after SOiL is over, I’m going to be an interior decorator!”
