Spirit Charge - PRESHOW RITUALS
Join us as Spirit Charge reveals what they do before taking the stage.
In this Preshow Rituals segment, the industrial rock band, Spirit Charge, reveals what they do before taking the stage. You can check out the rituals below:
Our live performance has become a higher priority over the past few years, with unique synchronized visual effects for every song (no loops) and a personal engineer at every show. Before shows, we like to be very present with the people at the event—networking, making friends, and showing our appreciation to those who come to see us, as we don’t play all that frequently. All three members of the band tend to do their own thing to get physically and mentally prepared, whether it’s stretching, rhythm exercises, or just seeking out a nice tequila.
We take lots of photos with fans at every show and tend to make a lot of new ones each time. This is because we stick out like a sore thumb. There are no other industrial rock bands in the area—maybe even for hundreds of miles. Industrial projects tend to be more "goth." Think Combichrist, not a band like NIN. We don’t fit into anyone’s scene, so nearly every show has to be self-organized. We fight to get spots at all sorts of events: metal, alt-rock, electronic, hardcore, even cover band events. It doesn’t matter where we play or what the crowd is there to hear—we’re fully capable of entertaining the audience because of how flexible our sound is, with many songs that sound different from each other and our high-energy performance.
The idea going into every show, especially when we’re with other bands and in front of people who don’t know us yet, is to "steal the show." If half the people at an event are there for another band, we want that half talking about us by the end of the night. That’s why we push ourselves hard, even if it means the next day is going to be rough. We structure our setlists and pick specific songs to create an entertaining flow that keeps everyone engaged and guessing. After the first couple of songs, no one knows how to react. By song four, the room is completely ours. That’s how it goes every single time, and it’s the coolest part of the experience—when we finally know the crowd is on our side.
