My Morning Jacket
My Morning Jacket was one of the first bands we all communed over, throwing covers of their music into our early sets and diving deep into their records for inspiration in our own songwriting. Jim James is a psychedelic prince who knows how to capture the eyes and ears of every single audience member. Live, they are a powerhouse of a band with a sound that simply transcends and soars and cleans your clock. Plus, I imagine a ten-minute conversation with Jim James would impart more wisdom about life and love and humanity and sexuality than any other experience I have had up to this point. I turn to MMJ constantly for reference and knowledge—to tour with them would be nothing short of an honor.
Rihanna
She is the epitome of cool. I follow Rihanna on Snapchat so I get some insight into her life on the road through that. Besides loving her music—especially Anti—and being able to hear that every night, her stage presence is unmatched and each show would be a master class in performance; it would be an opportunity to learn from one of the best at the very apex of a storied career. The shows of huge pop stars like Rihanna verge on theater in a really fascinating way—one could stand to learn a ton from watching that materialize night after night.
Led Zeppelin
More tour legends and lore swirl around this band’s history than any other. The antics alone would be enough to want to merely hang out with them while they toured, though you could spare us the mudshark. I think post-II would be the perfect time as they had come into legitimate successes and carved out their sound, but weren’t the titans of rock and roll yet and, as a result, would maybe hang out with the other bands with whom they were touring. Robert Plant is also one of the finest singers of all time—I’d love the opportunity to pick his brain about technique, writing, and presence even if for just a moment.
