I have to preface this by saying I am struck by a sense of unworthiness when I think about a “dream tour” scenario involving SYML . . . but here we go.
First of all, the tour sponsor would be some sort of sub-par whiskey, like Jim Beam, just so everyone is clear that things might not go smoothly that night.
Opening the night would be Oasis, but not the “stable” Oasis we all know and love. I’m talking the “Jim Beam” Oasis. They’d be slated to play for an hour, but would only barely make it through the intros to 4 songs. I think this would be the best palette cleanser for the evening. Oasis would be the pickled ginger to the SYML sushi.
Next up would be Sigur Ros. I should mention that in-between acts there would be an illusionist/hypnotist performing for about 5 minutes. Nothing too crazy, just nice.
Following 25 minutes of Sigur Ros (they ALWAYS run over their allotted time), we would have Chain Smokers feat. Halsey. It would be a delight to watch these two perform active radio hits while pretending to not upstage the other. This would go on for 30 minutes but would feel like substantially more than 30 minutes.
The final opener would be a 10-minute precursor to my set. It would be Kendrick Lamar reading all of the interludes on all of his albums in one big poem.
Then SYML plays the 7 or so songs I know. Fade to black.
I should say that I enjoy all of these bands and I’m sure SYML fans have, at some point, enjoyed them too.
