Tablefox – CRAZY TOUR STORIES

In this Crazy Tour Stories segment, the rock band, Tablefox, talk about some of their crazy moments from touring. You can check out the feature, after the break.

When we toured in New Zealand back in 2016 for the Objects album release we headed off to the North of New Zealand for a gig on a beautiful summer’s day. The band was full of pre-gig excitement. Everything looked set for a big night. What we didn’t know was that the whole town was celebrating ‘National Crate Day’. This is a tradition where the whole country hits the beach or a house party with crates of beer- supported by the largest rock station in the country no less. Our timing couldn’t have been worse, the town was dead and there were 11 people in the bar. Most of the patrons were tourists so they didn’t know anything about this ‘National Crate Day’. So we enthusiastically did the show and thankfully the owner of the bar was very apologetic about the turnout due to the timing. What we didn’t realize was that there was a radio DJ in the crowd over from Melbourne, Australia who loved our set and offered to play us on her show. We also sold our album to almost everybody there. The moral of the story is always play your socks off no matter how many people show up.
When the band was Touring back in 2015 they decided to include some studio time they had won just to keep things fresh and interesting. The studio was located in rural heartland NZ in an old abandoned Hospital. It was mid -winter as we arrived to find the buildings and our accommodation were fitting for the scenes of any good 70’s horror film. We were greeted by the fantastic hosts to be taken through to the studio and discovered there was quite the hidden gem buried inside the walls. Fantastic vintage setup oozing with atmosphere. Emotions were high within the band as guitarist Chris’s mother was too soon pass away and vocalist Clint’s brother was in the latter stages of a terminal illness. With the initial plans of recording a few tracks for an ep, every element combined to bring an outpouring of creativity and emotion. In just 2 days the band fired out 10 tracks that had every element of the environment and the emotions laced in the performance. It became clear very quickly that the band had an album on their hands. Chris’s mother passed that weekend which fuelled the band to produce the best album possible over the next 5 months. That album became the debut Tablefox album ‘OBJECTS’. In a fitting tribute, Clints brother was able to attend the release party that year before his tragic passing. The unexpected creation of the album whilst out touring forged the musical bond that has made Tablefox the close unit it is.
